Fuzzy has something a little different for you today. "The Endless Journey: North" by ARTEMIS is classical music album. Yes, "classical" like the kind from a movie soundtrack. Which is why I'm recommending you give it a listen, especially if you dig the music from the Lord of the Rings movies, or if you enjoy playing atmospheric music during a D&D session. If that doesn't recommend this album to you already, then let me add it comes from SCARECROW, the symphonic doom band from Russia who's excellent album from 2019 which I enjoyed quite a lot (here's my review). Check out the video teaser which explains the album better than I can:
From the band:
“North” it is conceptual 10-pieces, 1 hour length suite for full symphonic orchestra, some groups of folk instruments and choir.
Here the idea of soundscapes is fully reflected - each part is saturated with different sounds - from the gentle rustle of heather inflorescences and the buzzing of bumblebees to the monstrous peals of thunder in the stormy northern ocean.
The journey is reflected not only in the soundscapes but also, more importantly, in the very nature of the music: it begins in the temperate climate zone and the first parts of Moorlands, Forests, Mountains, Fjords have a quieter sound with a greater influence of folk music, but as we move on to north, the nature of the music is changing. In Tundra, Icebergs, Arctic and Ocean, the emphasis shifts towards the powerful, epic sound of a full symphony orchestra.
The last thing Fuzzy has to say is, these days anyone can appreciate a mellow, relaxing yet textured and layered collection of songs that transport you to a fantasy world, and take you away from the hellscape we seem to find ourselves trapped in, even if just for an hour.
A CD will be released October 9th with 2 editions:
- Standard edition 6-panel digipak
- Extended edition with 6-panel digipak, photo book and signed postcard
